The Sounds of American Doomsday Cults, v.14
I've posted some weird shit, no fooling, but this is the weirdest. Here, we have a religious separatist group from the western US who particularly have it in for rock'n'roll. So, they decide to banish it, in part, by speaking in tongues.
Side one has some cool shit, particularly where they teach followers how to have correct posture to resist the Satanic message of David Lee Roth. Or when they read the roll call of Satan-loving rock stars from about 1985 (Huey Lewis? Who knew?).
But the real gem is the 20+ minute ecstatic chant on the back side. The first couple minutes are so jarring, it seems more humorous than affecting. Then, you start to get sucked into the groove. The chants shift slowly, like a minimalist piano piece (but with 40 people speaking in monotone tongues).
That last piece is absolutely BEGGING to be sampled into a electronica record. I'm thinking probably tablas and sitar loops behind it. One of you guys who play that sampling sport needs to do this. Give me a co-writer credit, if you got any class.
Does anyone know if this cult still exists?

Dude! I've wanted this for a while but have always been too cheap to actually pick it up. I'm constantly teased by that Negativland song in which they do sample it and by hearing it a few times on WFMU.
Thanks, man! This is some weird, weird stuff. Makes me want to join a cult.
Liz has retired [or perhaps even left the building] not sure how successful the Church Triumphant are now. In the 80's we used to play their radio show on our community station. One classic episode offered a chant which began 'Oh Adam sells electrons', which we set to some square dance music. Needless to say it was the most requested track of that year.
Simply amazing vocal gymnastics!
These cult vocals inspired a mashup believe it or not. They sounded much like the punk vocals of the Dayglo's in their song 1967.

Any post that begins, "I've posted some weird shit, no fooling, but this is the weirdest." gets instant respect! I haven't had a chance to listen to it, but your description had me in stitches. My curiosity has been piqued...
Thanks for your great site!

Thanks! FYI/FWIW, the roll call of satanic rockers was sampled by Negativland on their "Escape From Noise" LP.
We need a mirror! The rapidshare ran out!

I think my brain has been erased by this recording. My god! What greatness. Thanks!
Speaking of doomsday cults, I've been hoping someone somewhere (you?!?) would post The Frogs' "It's Only Right and Natural"... Know it? Have it?
You need to check out "Set it on Fire."
No kidding.

Would you be so kind as to re-upload? I am an electronic music artist and I feel I NEEEEEEED to sample this!!!!!!

the Church Universal and their offspring called The Summit Lighthouse actually have quite a bit of followers in Sweden of all places.
